For the July issue of The World of Interiors, I was commissioned by
Ben Weaver to respond to an open-ended brief: to photograph an outdoor fabric.

To remind myself of my role, which has always been that of an intermediary,
I didn't want to keep the fabric to myself. Instead, I decided to regift it to
Mahmoud, a farmer I've known since childhood in my grandparents' village
in Sharqia, Egypt.

Since their worlds are unlikely to collide, I wanted to give the reader of this
issue a chance to see Mahmoud, and in turn, to offer Mahmoud the space
to represent himself here, with his new carpet.
